Call to Order: 9:32 AM

Previous Minutes: Read and approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Balances were given for checking, savings and the Ernest R. Ortega Scholarship fund. Teacher’s need to send Christine Wright a copy of P.O.’s made for participation fee’s so she knows that you have submitted that paperwork and she does not come after you (the teacher) for the money. Please make sure to keep a copy for yourself.
Festival Reports
Junior High Honor Band: Jessica Coz is the chair for this event. The Festival of Excellence is scheduled for March 7th and 8th, 2008 at Gila Ridge High School
Solo and Ensemble: Brian Carlson is the chair for this event. This will occur on February 23rd, 2008 at Centennial Middle School. No pop including Disney songs and Oldies. Registration deadline is February 8th, 2008.
Elementary Honor Choir: Ann Galloway is the chair for this event. It will occur on May 9th, 2008 at Cibola High School at 7:00pm. There will be a rehearsal from 9:00am to 11:00am that day at Cibola High School. Registration deadline is February 28th, 2008.
Jazz Festival: Dave Vosler is the chair for this event. It will occur on March 22nd, 2008 at Yuma High School, not Cibola High School.
Desert Band Festival: Sheryl Clifton is the chair for this event. It will occur on May 15th and 16th, 2008 at Post Elementary School. There will be a meeting of members wishing to choose music for this event on Saturday, January 26th, 2008 at 9:30am at Woodard Junior High School. If you cannot attend the meeting, please send music suggestions with someone else or at least the titles of music you are suggesting to Sheryl.
Junior High Honor Choir: Sheryl Clifton is the chair for this event. The Festival of Excellence is scheduled for March 7th and 8th, 2008 at Gila Ridge High School. Music will be sent out soon. Registration deadline is February 29th, 2008.
Scholarships: Beth Tibbs and Tom Ogilivie are the chairs for this event. Auditions will occur on February 28th, 2008. Tom stated he has not been given any other information about this event.
Elementary Choir Festival: Patricia Moore and Christine Wright are the chairs for this event. It will occur on March 20th, 2008 at Post Elementary School, not March 13th. Grade levels are welcomed to attend. The Junior High Honor Choir and a Kofa Choral ensemble will perform as an exhibition group.
Junior/Senior High Choir Festival: Kenna Tanaka is the chair for this event. It will occur on March 6th, 2008 at Cibola High School.
Celebration of Strings: Kathy Younkers is the chair for this event. It will occur on May 17th, 2008 at the Yuma Historic Theatre. A format has not been set yet.
High School Honor Band: Brandon Coz is the chair for this event. It will occur on March 26th (rehearsal) and 27th, 2008 (rehearsal and performance). A venue has not been set yet. Dr. Daniel Smith from Northern Arizona University has been invited to be the guest clinician. The Junior High Honor band will also be performing at this concert. Auditions will be February 11th, 2008 at Yuma Catholic High School from 4:00pm-9:00pm.
Large Group Festival: Randy Wright is the chair for this event. It will occur on May 2nd at Yuma High School.
New Business
Accompianist/Judges Fees: Fees are $15.00 and hour with a $30.00 minimum for in town people. $100.00 for out of town people.
All County In-service Day: This will occur on February 15th, 2008 at Cibola High School. There will be three band reading sessions and three choir reading sessions sponsored by J.W. Pepper. The schedule and people leading the sessions are as follows: Choir- Beginning (Lyn Curry and Patricia Moore), Intermediate(Chris Wright), Advanced(Kenna Tanaka); Band-Beginning(Brandon Coz), Advanced(Dave Vosler), Intermediate (Randy Wright). People are still needed to fill in for the band and choir reading sessions (Junior High Honor Band, High School students, college students). Music packs for the clinicians should be in sometime in the next week or two. People are also needed to help collect and organize band music. Pat Albright will be accompanying the choir sessions. It was suggested and approved that she get paid for this.
Music In Our Schools Month: Patricia Moore suggested emailing TV and Radio stations to see if they would be willing to do something special for the month of March (MIOSM). She suggested a featured music group every week or twice a week. Paul Ortega suggested recording some students saying why they think music education is important to them and sending it to KAWC to play because she had done it before. It was brought up that Patricia Moore should be appointed Public Relations Coordinator to let the public know of upcoming YCMEA events and it was approved.
YCMEA Website: It was suggested by Chris Wright to pay Carl Posch $100.00 for running the website. This was approved.
Piano Tuning: Yuma will be losing their usual Piano tuner. Some new suggestions were Bill Heick (phone# 446-5352) and Jack Hodges (phone# 342-5942). It was also mentioned that there was someone advertised in the Yuma Sun Classifieds.
Low Brass Clinic: Mr. Vinning is doing a low brass clinic on February 5th, 2008 at Yuma High School. All low brass students are welcomed. Students are also needed to solo and be an example for clinics for Mr. Vinning. It was suggested that the clinic be at 1:00pm for an hour. Amada Dallabetta will email everyone to confirm the time. Mr. Vinning will be featured in a Yuma High School Band concert on February 6th, 2008 at 7:00pm at Snyder Auditorium.
1st Annual Strings Del Rio Orchestra Camp: This will occur June 15th-June 21st, 2008 9:00am-3:00pm daily at Cibola High School. There will be a concert on the final day of the camp at a venue not yet determined. They are going to bring in a famous string quartet to come in and perform with the participants. This camp is open to students of all ages, including adults. The cost per student is tentatively $250.00 and there is the possibility of offering scholarships.
YCMEA Recital: Brandon Coz suggested having the members of YCMEA do a recital for students to come see. Maybe for next year.
